PeltierAs Middelton won the big battle, the Regional Title went to Preston Peltier, who had his best finish in several weeks on the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour.

“We set out originally… to win the overall championship,” said Peltier. “There were so many setbacks; financially it just took a toll and that’s just where we ended up. And it’s a good thing. I’ve never won a championship in a stockcar, so this is a good start.

Music City Motorplex, Nashville, TN Saturday, July 5, 2008

Mooresville, NC’s Jeff Choquette and Auburn, KY’s Keeton Hanks brought the field to the green flag of the RC Cola/Moon Pie 100 at the Music City Motorplex. Choquette quickly jumped to the lead, but his hold on the top spot was short lived as Preston Peltier blew past him on the third lap to take the lead. On lap thirty-eight, Bubba Pollard’s No. 26 hit the wall in turn three, bringing out the night’s first yellow flag and bringing the field back to the rear bumper of Peltier. It made no difference as Peltier raced out to more than a half straightaway lead over the pack of cars racing for second through sixth.

PELTIER WINS BAYOU CLASSIC AT MIS -- Mar 23 2008 Preston Peltier etched his name in the ASA history books by winning the inaugural ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour Bayou Classic 100 at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday night. During the week Peltier is a fabricator at Hendricks Motorsports and moonlights on the weekends in the ASA Series.

Jasper Georgia native Jeremy Mullinax set the new ASA qualifying record at 17.296 and Stephen McCurley would start on the pole by virtue of the invert. Local favorite Steven Davis took up where he left off from last weeks 95 KSJ 95 and motored his way to the top spot by lap 10. At the midway point Peltier took the top spot while feeling the heat from Humble, Texas’s Stephen McCurley. McCurley and Davis both suffered tire failures that would keep them from contending for the win.

Michael “Wild Child” Pope made a strong run at Peltier in the closing laps but came up short and Peltier went on to win the Bayou Classic.

Jay Middleton Becomes First Repeat Winner in ASA Southeast
Point Leader Wins in His First Ever Trip to Dillon Motor Speedway, SC

... That brought RC Cola / MoonPie pole-sitter Preston Peltier up to second for the final forty laps. As the race wound down, Peltier laid right behind Middleton’s tire tracks looking for him to make an error. Middleton and Peltier displayed a nose-to-tail battle lap after lap in search of the victory. The two had broken away from the pack before a yellow with eight laps. During the ensuing restart Peltier spun his tires, and that enabled Middleton to move ahead to the victory.

“They were able to make a race of it at the end because the 5-car (Peltier) was so strong,” stated Middleton. “I can’t say enough about Preston (Peltier); he’s a good quality racer. He ran me clean; so one day when the roles are reversed, I’ll run him clean.”

Peltier was happy with second, but he knew, even without the late-race caution, there was not much he could have done with Middleton.

“I would have rather won the thing,” said Peltier, who remains second in the national standings. “This is good for the team and good for Chevy, AP and ARP bodies. I probably wasn’t going to get him. I was putting as much pressure on him as I legally could. I did everything but move him. I was hoping he would make a mistake, but he didn’t; he was ice cold.”

Point Battles Heating Up in ASA Southeast
Three Separate Battles Have Three Different Leaders

... Preston Peltier leads the Beach Tour points by 14 markers over Alabama young gun John Bolen.  The region has already run three of its five races in 2008.  Peltier won the first the first race at Mobile International Speedway.

“It’s a way for guys to run for a championship,” adds Peltier. “Whether it’s the overall championship or a region, it gives more people the opportunity of having the prestige of winning a title.”
