At the age of 14, Preston started racing street stocks at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield, CA. Racing was second nature to Preston as he had multiple feature wins his first year racing. After that, he was hooked. For the next couple of years, Preston raced at Mesa Marin and Kern County Raceway and continued his winning ways. With the help of his grandmother, Preston was able to purchase a late model. Preston started a few races but the money soon ran out and the racing came to a halt. With no luck in the sponsor search and no money to race on, he sold his race car, packed up and moved to North Carolina in hopes to further his racing career.

In 2000, Preston was introduced to the world of shifter kart road racing and fell in love with it. For the next couple of years, with the support and help of his wife, Heather and a couple of friends, he traveled throughout the eastern United States winning at tracks left and right. He was once again, bitten by the racing bug.

In 2002, Preston won the WKA national championship. Also in the same year, he won the Shifter Kart World Championships at Daytona International Speedway and again the following year. Had a cover shot on Shifter Kart Illustrated and won at famed tracks such as Road America, Road Atlanta, VIR and Lowe's Motor Speedway. Things were great but he wanted a bigger challenge racing so the next step was to sell the karts and buy a super late model.

Preston started racing the Big 10 series at Concord Motorsports Park. Multiple pole positions were obtained and Preston won his first super late model race there. After his second season, the Big 10 series was taken off the roster and he had to find a new place to race. Preston started racing at Southern National Speedway and again, brought home multiple pole awards but this time he also had the wins that he was searching for. He won on a weekly basis.

In 2006, Preston joined the PASS South series and repeated his great qualifying effort by sitting on th epole and finishing in the top five most nights. In 2007, he placed second in the overall points standings. However to this date, a PASS South series victory has evaded him.

In 2008, Preston is excited to join a new series, the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour, and is a favorite to win races and ultimately the championship title.
